MARC Records appeared in early 1976 just as OG had closed up shop. MARC took advantage of the current Japan tours by popular Western artists, as well as UK performances in early ’76 and really managed to shorten the time between recording and finished product in a way that previously only Contraband in the US had managed. With appealing cover art and decent sound quality, many of their releases remain desirable to collectors until this day.

  1. The problem with certain Marc Bolan / T.Rex titles is that “MARC” seems to have been used by other non-Japanese bootleg producers for Marc Bolan/T Rex bootlegs as well – for obvious reasons. This would not be such a big obstacle if sufficient images of releases such as the 4 LP set TRIBUTE (MARC 1/2/3/4) and the single LPs A Child of Rarn (MARC 2 but listed under Raring Records on discogs, definitely not a Japanese label. Could be a later US copy, of course), T.Rextacy (MARC 4) and The Wizard (MARC 1). Anyone own or at least seen these?

HOTWACKS also doesn’t list any of these as Japanese bootlegs (not that that’s reliable, of course). On the other hand, the Suzi Quatro cover talks about a forthcoming T. Rex release but they also announce one by Roxy Music, which never seems to have materialized… Help!

Marc..one of my favorite (Japanese) bootleg labels….reasons already stated above…!!
Wonder if Japanese bootleggers will ever tell their stories.

    • MARC – the Japanese Glam Rock-influenced label. Like you, I also wish we could get some “behind the scenes” stories.
